The Working from Home Lament

CB007273

I’m meant to be working
I’ve so much to do
But the beds all need changing
And I must clean the loo

I want to be blogging
I’ve so much to say
But I’m constantly cooking
Or clearing away

I must make a phone call
But the kids won’t stop squealing
There are crumbs on the rug
And cobwebs on the ceiling

I need to start working
I’ve emails to send
But I’ve just had a text
From a newly dumped friend

It’s toddlers nap time,
I need to get cracking
But the food’s been delivered
And the bags need unpacking.

I must cook from scratch
Something quick and delicious
Cos takeaway’s quick
But it’s hardly nutricious

I promised I’d schedule
Some ‘me time’ today
But the chances of that now
Are dwindling away

The kids are in bed now
There’s just no excuse
But I’m dead on my feet now –
Oh, what’s the use!

But admit it, you wouldn’t change it for the world!!

Excellent poem. :-) I love it!

Spookily familiar, have you been watching me? :0)

Actually, an adult could easily hide behind a pile of laundry at our place and I wouldn’t notice!

    Hi there,
I know that feeling well! Love the poem!

Can I let you know about an online group (primarily for mums) which has a great chat room where we exchange ideas and support each other in getting our homes in order.
    Here is the link:
    http://www.flylady.net/radio/
Most of the mums there have been following Flylady systems for a while but some are newbies. i’d say about 20% are from the UK.

Let me know if you get there!

This is fab, please can I use it in the next mummomag (http://www.mummomag.co.uk) – I think it’s exactly the kind of thing that lots of mums will relate to and chuckle / grimace at! I certainly did.

That hit a nerve! Switch the toddlers squealing for teenage taxi service and that’s uncomfortably familiar!

Brilliant poem, loved it! It can definitely be frustrating when there are things you’re itching to get done but can’t because you’re busy with the kids, so it has to wait until later. Have to say the housework just doesn’t get done, any spare moments are spent working (I’m a website developer and I do my work in the evenings now, when the kids have gone to bed: http://www.fionareeves.co.uk ). Toddler having nap – I work, husband home from work – I work! I definitely relate to the “me” time always going out the window… sigh.

Love it! Have printed it out and stuck it above my desk. Couldn’t agree more Fiona – evenings, nap times, when they’re out with the grandparents and the few hours they’re at the local pre-school, emails on the Blackberry whilst they’re running around at the local soft play centre…that’s my working week!?
