Do you have the Housework Blues?

j0387267I make no secret of the fact – I hate housework. I’m not one of those people whose idea of a treat is to don her marigolds and lose herself in cleaning, polishing and scrubbing (and believe me, I know people like this *shudder*).

I belong more to the Damage Limitation School of Housework - i.e. trying the keep the kitchen relatively clear, and generally ignoring the state of the floors until the kids are in bed, when I will hoover and tidy their toys away. Then, once every few weeks/months I will go into complete meltdown, scream about what an absolute TIP the house is, and have a complete blitz!

Now I know this is not the most effective way to run a home, but with 2 children under 5, 2 cats and a business to look after, something has got to give – and with me, it’s the housework. Which is why I was so excited to discover Danielle Raine on Twitter, and the fact that she had written a book called Household Blues – A Survival Guide: How to cope with the mental and emotional challenge of keeping a home.

I contacted Danielle, in somewhat of a tizzy, offering to review her book, as I have a good idea it might actually change my life. Not only did she agree to send me a copy, but she has given us 3 more copies to offer as prizes for anyone who signs up for our National Newsletter in the next couple of weeks.

WIN YOUR OWN COPY & BECOME A DOMESTIC GODDESS!!

So if you would like to be in with a chance of winning one of these fabulous books just sign up to our National Newsletter between now and 11th April to be in with a winning chance!

I will post my book review just as soon as I’ve torn open the packaging and devoured it from cover to cover (if I’m not too busy polishing my silver or scrubbing the inside of my oven with a toothbrush, that is!)

Does it come with a peronalised house goblin? That’s about the only thing that I could imagine making a difference in this pit!

  2. Suebee says:

The cleaner your house, the unhealthier your children – that’s my excuse but it’s actually true!

  3. Clare says:

My house is a mess! We’ve sold up and are packed and ready to move, but our sellers house has fallen through. I am so fed up with all the boxes and not being able to find anything. Doesn’t exactly inspire me to do any housework!

Have you ever tried flylady? :-) http://www.flylady.net

  5. Uta says:

I am so with you. My answer is a cleaner in order to at least once a week have a nice tidy clean house, ignore it unless a total health risk the rest of the time and a business startegy that has the declared goal of a housekeeper within 2 years.

  6. Natalie says:

I can relate to all of you. I have a cleaner and it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done as it’s taken hours of stress off my week. I still have to tidy and in fact, have to tidy for her arrival…but it’s better than losing my marbles every week…

oooh please let me win, lazy 16 yr old creates so much mess, anything that helps me to tidy up after him would be incredible

Of course I’m going to say “get a cleaner” but believe me it will free up so much of your time to do other things.
You cannot do everything you MUST delegate & the easiest thing to delegate is cleaning.
Enjoy your life, your family, your work.
Also look at it in a business sense..Can you delegate your cleaning & free up enough time to make 3 time plus what you pay the cleaner? It makes sense doesn’t it.

If you are still reluctant then one tip I will give you is to only tackle one room at a time. Do not try and do the whole house in a minimal time window as you will be distracted and you will feel you have accomplished nothing.
